System name: Fay

At 4 a.m. Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center issued its first advisory of the day for the system, stating that Tropical Storm Fay is in the Atlantic Ocean, 1,465 miles west-southwest of the Azores. Packing maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, the system is tracking to the southwest at 13 mph.

“Some weakening is expected during the next day or so, and Fay is forecast to become a post-tropical cyclone within 36 h. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the center,” forecasters explained.

Yesterday (Monday)

Fay previously a tropical depression but has since gained strength and developed into a tropical storm with sustained winds of 40 mph.
