According to the National Hurricane Center’s 10 p.m. Monday advisory, Fay found new strength and had evolved from a tropical depression into a tropical storm with sustained winds of 40 mph. Tropical Storm Fay is in the Atlantic Ocean, 1,380 miles west-southwest of the Azores. With maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, it is moving to the southwest at 10 mph.

“Little change in strength is forecast during the next day or so, and Fay is forecast to become a post-tropical cyclone in 36 h. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the center,” analysts observed.
