MARE, Loyalty Islands Province — A 5.0 magnitude quake rattled near Tadine on Saturday evening, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which jolted the region at 08:24 UTC (19:24 local time), was centered roughly 78 km east-northeast of Tadine. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Tremors last week

During the past week, the area has experienced nine tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or greater, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The largest, measuring 6.6, occurred in the same region on Sep. 26.
