MARE, Loyalty Islands Province — A 5.0 magnitude quake struck near Tadine on Saturday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 07:22 UTC (18:22 local time), a tremor jolted the region at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter approximately 84 km east-northeast of Tadine.

Seven tremors of magnitude 2.5 or higher have been recorded in the region over the last week, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The biggest, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake, was registered in the same area on Sep. 26.
