MARE, Loyalty Islands Province — A 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to Tadine on Saturday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The USGS reported a tremor in the region at 05:50 UTC (16:50 local time). The epicenter was about 64 km east-northeast of Tadine, at a depth of 10 km.

Tremors last week

Six quakes with a magnitude 2.5 or higher have been registered in the region in the past week, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The largest, measuring 6.6, rocked the same area on Sep. 26.
