Seismic activity on Sept. 8: Earthquake close to Isangel, Vanuatu registered – magnitude 5.1

A 5.1 magnitude quake occurred near Isangel around midday Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A tremor struck the area at 00:52 UTC (11:52 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was about 96 km east-southeast of Isangel and occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Tremors past week

Last week, three earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or above have been detected in the region. The strongest, a 5.6 magnitude quake, shook in the same region on Sep. 6.
