ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — A 5.2 magnitude quake hit near Nikolski around midnight Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 11:24 a.m. (12:24 a.m. local time), a tremor jolted the region at a depth of 28 miles, with its epicenter about 60 miles south-southwest of Nikolski. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.8 event, but later upgraded it to 5.2.

Last week, there have been 53 tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or above centered nearby. The largest one was a 6.3 earthquake that was detected in the same area prior to this quake.
