Update: Earthquake measuring 5.2 strikes area near Nikolski, AK on Sept. 2

ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — A 5.2 magnitude quake jolted near Nikolski on Wednesday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor hit the region at 12:32 p.m. (1:32 a.m. local time). It occurred at a depth of 22 miles with the epicenter approximately 48 miles south-southwest of Nikolski.

Quakes last week

34 earthquakes with a magnitude 2.5 or higher have been recorded in the region during the past week. The biggest, a 5.3 magnitude tremor, was detected in the same area on Sep. 31.
