At 22:53 UTC (08:53 local time), a tremor jolted the region at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter about 23 km east-northeast of Colonia.

Nearby area hit by two quakes over the week
Two earthquakes exceeding magnitude 2.5 have been recorded in the region in the past week. Each was centered in the same area with the more significant — a 5.4 magnitude event — shaking on Aug. 16. The second, a 4.9 magnitude tremor, rattled on Aug. 18.
