SANTA LUCÍA COTZULMALGUAPA, Escuintla Department — A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near La Democracia at midnight on Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor struck the area at 06:58 UTC (00:58 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was about 11 km west of La Democracia and occurred at a depth of 91 km.
