A 5.3 magnitude quake struck near Panguna on Thursday around midday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which hit the area at 02:46 UTC (12:46 local time), was centered approximately 204 km west-northwest of Panguna. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.
