A 5.3 magnitude quake hit close to Karpathos at midday on Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor struck the area at 11:06 UTC (13:06 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter approximately 23 km south of Karpathos. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later upgraded it to 5.3.
