Update: Earthquake measuring 5.0 shakes area near Hihifo, Tonga on June 23

NIUATOPUTAPU, Niuas — A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Hihifo on Tuesday evening, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A tremor jolted the region at 07:11 UTC (20:11 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was roughly 173 km east of Hihifo and occurred at a depth of 10 km.
