Update: Earthquake measuring 5.7 shakes area close to Kōya, Japan on May 2

ITO DISTRICT, Wakayama — A 5.7 magnitude quake occurred near Kōya on Saturday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which hit the region at 09:28 UTC (18:28 local time), was centered about 12 km south-southwest of Kōya. It occurred at a depth of 64 km.
