Update: Fire weather watch affecting Central Colorado Monday – enhanced fire threat

At 11:13 p.m. on Saturday, the National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch valid for Monday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. for Central Colorado.

The NWS states that the warning was issued for wind and low relative humidity. Winds are forecasted to be southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts around 30 mph. Gusts up to 35 mph in Park and southern Jefferson counties and relative humidity as low as 10%.

“Conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread. Avoid outdoor burning and any activity that may produce a spark and start a wildfire,” states the NWS.

The full list of affected locations includes:

• Central and Southeast Park County

• Jefferson and West Douglas counties above 6,000 feet/Gilpin/Clear Creek/Northeast Park counties below 9,000 feet

• Larimer County below 6,000 feet/Northwest Weld County

• Elbert/central and east Douglas counties above 6,000 feet

• North and Northeast Elbert County below 6,000 feet/North Lincoln County

• Southeast Elbert County below 6,000 feet/South Lincoln County

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
