OSHIKA DISTRICT, Miyagi — A 5.0 magnitude quake struck close to Onagawa Chō on Saturday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tremor hit at 10:36 UTC (19:36 local time), with its epicenter approximately 27 km east of Onagawa Chō and a depth of 80 km.

Two tremors closeby last week
Two earthquakes greater than magnitude 2.5 have been registered nearby in the past week. Each was centered in the same area with the more significant — a 5.0 magnitude event — hitting on Apr. 2. The second, a 4.4 magnitude tremor, hit on Mar. 31.
