Update: Earthquake measuring 5.4 strikes area near Hihifo, Tonga on March 27

NIUATOPUTAPU, Niuas — A 5.4 magnitude quake hit near Hihifo around midday Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 23:35 UTC (11:35 local time), a tremor shook the region at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter roughly 116 km east of Hihifo.
