Update: Fire weather watch issued for Teller County and Southern Front Range for Thursday – gusts reaching 45 mph

On Tuesday at 11:40 p.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch valid for Thursday between noon and 8 p.m. for Teller County/Rampart Range including Pikes Peak and Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument and Southern Front Range including Sangre De Cristo Mountains/Wet Mountains/La Veta Pass.

Expect winds to be west 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph on Thursday and relative humidity as low as 9%.

“Elevated fire danger is expected. Fires will catch and spread rapidly and erratically,” states the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
