Update: Earthquake measuring 5.0 strikes area close to South Sandwich Islands region on March 22

A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near South Sandwich Islands region on Sunday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

At 11:39 UTC (09:39 local time), a tremor rattled the region at a depth of 108 km, with its epicenter of South Sandwich Islands region. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.

Another magnitude 5.1 tremor was centered in the region. The event was documented close to South Sandwich Islands region too on Mar. 19.
