Update: Seismic activity on March 19 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake close to Mid-Indian Ridge detected

A 5.0 magnitude quake hit near Mid-Indian Ridge around midday Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which rattled the area at 06:26 UTC (11:26 local time), was centered of Mid-Indian Ridge. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Tremors past week

Last week, there have been four tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above centered nearby. The largest one was a 5.2 magnitude earthquake that struck in the same region on Mar. 18.
