ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — A 5.1 magnitude quake struck near Attu Station on Sunday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

At 10:41 p.m. (10:41 a.m. local time), a tremor jolted the region at a depth of 6 miles, with its epicenter roughly 144 miles east-southeast of Attu Station. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.0 event, but later upgraded it to 5.1.

Tremors past week

Over the last week, the area has experienced 40 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or higher, three of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The largest, measuring 6.4, occurred in the same region on Mar. 5.
