ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — A 6.4 magnitude quake occurred near Attu Station on Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor shook the area at 5:54 p.m. (5:54 a.m. local time). It occurred at a depth of 6 miles with the epicenter about 139 miles east-southeast of Attu Station. Seismologists first reported it as a 6.5 event, but later downgraded it to 6.4.
