According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake shook close to Vilyuchinsk Thursday afternoon.

It was reported that a tremor hit the region at 05:58 UTC (16:58 local time). The epicenter was located approximately 196 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk, at a depth of 10 km.

Nearby area shaken by two quakes over the week

During the past week, the area has experienced two tremors greater than magnitude 2.5, both centered in the same region. The larger, a 5.7 magnitude event, was detected prior to this quake, while the other, at magnitude 4.4, hit on February 23.
