NIUATOPUTAPU, Niuas — Tuesday morning, a 5.6 magnitude quake was registered near Hihifo, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor shook the area at 21:14 UTC (09:14 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter located about 137 km northeast of Hihifo. The magnitude was originally reported as 6.0 but later downgraded to 5.6.
