A 5.0 magnitude quake was recorded near Kitaibaraki Tuesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
A tremor struck the region at 09:03 UTC (18:03 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated roughly 22 km east of Kitaibaraki and occurred at a depth of 60 km.

Those who experienced the quake are encouraged to report it through the USGS Felt Report form. 8 people have submitted responses through the agency’s online form, saying they felt the tremor. Weak shaking has been detected and several residents reported experiencing the earthquake in Tokyo and the surrounding area according to the USGS DYFI report.

Last week’s quake
During the past week, a magnitude 4.4 quake was reported in the region, occurring close to Ōarai four days earlier.
