Update: Seismic activity on Feb. 2 – 5.3 magnitude earthquake close to Riverton, New Zealand registered

SOUTHLAND DISTRICT, Southland Region — Monday evening, a 5.3 magnitude quake was reported near Riverton, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor struck at 08:15 UTC (19:15 local time), with its epicenter located roughly 195 km west of Riverton and a depth of 10 km.
