RUFIJI, Pwani Region — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.3 magnitude quake occurred near Mbumi Tuesday evening.

It was reported that a tremor shook the region at 17:11 UTC (20:11 local time). The epicenter was situated roughly 40 km south of Mbumi, at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.4 event, but later downgraded it to 5.3.
