ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.9 magnitude quake struck near Attu Station Thursday evening.

It was reported that a tremor shook the region at 8:52 a.m. (8:52 p.m. local time). The epicenter was located about 173 miles east-southeast of Attu Station, at a depth of 26 miles. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.6 event, but later upgraded it to 5.9.
