On Sunday at 2:40 a.m. an updated fire weather watch was released by the National Weather Service valid for Monday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. for Western Las Animas County including Trinidad and Thatcher.

Expect winds to be west 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph and relative humidity as low as 12 percent.

“Fires will catch and spread quickly. Exercise extreme caution with any outdoor burning,” explains the NWS.

A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
