Update: Seismic activity on Dec. 30 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake close to Miyako, Japan registered

A 5.0 magnitude quake was recorded near Miyako Tuesday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor jolted the area at 22:19 UTC (08:19 local time). It occurred at a depth of 33 km with the epicenter located about 113 km east of Miyako. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.
