Update: Earthquake hits region close to Santa Maria, Philippines on Oct. 24 – 5.0 magnitude reported

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake jolted close to Santa Maria on Friday around midnight.

The tremor shook at 16:05 UTC (00:05 local time), with its epicenter situated approximately 20 km east of Santa Maria and a depth of 65 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.
