Update: Earthquake strikes region close to South Sandwich Islands region on Nov. 5 – 5.6 magnitude recorded

A 5.6 magnitude quake was detected near South Sandwich Islands region Wednesday evening, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which shook the area at 22:03 UTC (20:03 local time), was centered of South Sandwich Islands region. It occurred at a depth of 35 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.7 event, but later downgraded it to 5.6.
