Update: Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude registered close to Drake Passage on Oct. 10

A 5.0 magnitude quake was recorded near Drake Passage Friday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

It was reported that a tremor jolted the region at 21:13 UTC (17:13 local time). The epicenter was located of Drake Passage, at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.

Last week, there was one more quake of magnitude 7 centered nearby, which was also detected close to Drake Passage, prior to this quake.
