Update: Earthquake measuring 5.1 hits area near Sındırgı, Turkey on Nov. 3

SINDIRGI, Balıkesir — Monday afternoon, a 5.1 magnitude quake was reported close to Sındırgı, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which shook the region at 12:35 UTC (15:35 local time), was centered roughly 21 km east-southeast of Sındırgı. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.0 but later upgraded to 5.1.

Tremors last week

During the past week, there have been 11 earthquakes with a magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby. The largest one was a 6.0 earthquake that hit the same region seven days earlier.
