Update: Earthquake measuring 5.0 shakes area close to Estebanía, Dominican Republic on Oct. 20

ESTEBANIA, Azua Province — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake hit near Estebanía Monday afternoon.

The tremor jolted the region at 19:13 UTC (15:13 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter situated approximately 10 km north-northwest of Estebanía.

Light shaking was registered, with reports from Santo Domingo, Bajos de Haina and El Carril among the cities where residents experienced the tremor, according to the USGS DYFI report.
