On Friday around midday, a 5.1 magnitude quake was recorded close to San Ignacio, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor hit the region at 05:48 UTC (13:48 local time). The epicenter was located about 60 km east-southeast of San Ignacio, at a depth of 73 km.

Eight tremors of magnitude 2.5 or greater have been detected in the area over the last week, four of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The most significant was a 7.4 magnitude earthquake registered close to Santiago prior to this quake.
