At 10 p.m. Thursday, the National Hurricane Center released its initial advisory for subtropical storm. Subtropical Storm Karen is in the Atlantic Ocean, 545 miles north-northwest of the Azores. The system, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, is moving to the northeast at 9 mph.

“Little change in strength is forecast during the next day or so, and the system should open up into a trough by this weekend”, analysts observed.
