A 5.0 magnitude quake was registered close to Lakatoro Friday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor jolted the region at 06:05 UTC (17:05 local time). The epicenter was located about 28 km southwest of Lakatoro, at a depth of 21 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 4.9 but later upgraded to 5.0.

Nearby area shaken by two tremors over the week

In the past week, the area has experienced two quakes above magnitude 2.5, both centered in the same region. The larger, a 5.0 magnitude event, was detected prior to this quake, while the other, at magnitude 4.8, hit on September 12.
