Update: Earthquake measuring 5.1 shakes area close to Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia on Sept. 27

SEVERO-KURILSKY DISTRICT, Sakhalin Oblast — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.1 magnitude quake occurred near Severo-Kuril’sk Saturday afternoon.

The tremor hit the region at 07:25 UTC (18:25 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter situated approximately 212 km southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk.
