Update: Earthquake measuring 5.2 shakes area near Mid-Atlantic Ridge on Sept. 25

A 5.2 magnitude quake was detected near Mid-Atlantic Ridge Thursday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor struck the region at 17:59 UTC (16:59 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated south of Mid-Atlantic Ridge and occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Last week’s tremor

Last week, another earthquake with a magnitude 5.1 was reported nearby. It too was registered close to Mid-Atlantic Ridge, prior to this quake.
