A 5.9 magnitude quake was recorded close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Friday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which hit the area at 15:45 UTC (02:45 local time), was centered roughly 173 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. It occurred at a depth of 13 km.
