Saturday afternoon, a 5.2 magnitude quake was detected near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor struck the area at 06:22 UTC (18:22 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located about 117 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and occurred at a depth of 45 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later upgraded it to 5.2.

Tremors last week

In the past week, six earthquakes with a magnitude 2.5 or higher have been recorded in the region, three of them larger than magnitude 7. The most significant was a 7.7 magnitude earthquake registered in the same region prior to this quake.
