Update: Aug. 28 – 5.2 magnitude earthquake recorded close to Kokopo, Papua New Guinea

A 5.2 magnitude quake was registered close to Kokopo Thursday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor struck at 04:31 UTC (14:31 local time), with its epicenter situated approximately 155 km south-southeast of Kokopo and a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later upgraded it to 5.2.
