Update: Earthquake of 5.5 magnitude reported close to Takanabe, Japan on Aug. 16

KOYU DISTRICT, Miyazaki — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.5 magnitude quake shook near Takanabe Saturday morning.

It was reported that a tremor hit the region at 21:13 UTC (06:13 local time). The epicenter was located approximately 32 km east-southeast of Takanabe, at a depth of 30 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.6 event, but later downgraded it to 5.5.
