Update: Earthquake of 5.1 magnitude detected close to Vilyuchinsk, Russia on Aug. 10

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.1 magnitude quake occurred near Vilyuchinsk Sunday afternoon.

It was reported that a tremor struck the region at 06:59 UTC (17:59 local time). The epicenter was situated about 187 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk, at a depth of 14 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later downgraded it to 5.1.

Quakes past week

Last week, there have been 49 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The biggest, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake, was recorded in the same area four days ago.
