Earthquake of magnitude 5.0 reported near Ozernovskiy, Russia on Aug. 8

At midday on Friday, a 5.0 magnitude quake was detected close to Ozernovskiy, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor struck at 23:11 UTC (11:11 local time), with its epicenter situated roughly 17 km south of Ozernovskiy and a depth of 10 km.

Quakes past week

Over the last week, there have been two tremors, greater than magnitude 2.5, nearby. The largest, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake, was recorded near Severo-Kuril’sk prior to this quake, while a smaller 4.6 magnitude quake occurred close to Ozernovskiy on August 6.
