Update: Earthquake of 5.3 magnitude recorded near Fangale’ounga, Tonga on Aug. 6

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.3 magnitude quake occurred close to Fangale’ounga Wednesday morning.

The tremor struck at 22:08 UTC (10:08 local time), with its epicenter situated approximately 55 km east-northeast of Fangale’ounga and a depth of 35 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later upgraded it to 5.3.
