Wednesday afternoon, a 5.2 magnitude quake was detected close to Vilyuchinsk, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tremor hit the area at 06:36 UTC (17:36 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter situated roughly 176 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later downgraded it to 5.2.

Last week, there have been five tremors with a magnitude 5.5 or higher centered nearby. The most significant was a 6.1 magnitude earthquake reported in the same region seven days earlier.
