5.0 magnitude earthquake detected near Panguna, Papua New Guinea on Aug. 2

At midnight on Saturday, a 5.0 magnitude quake was reported close to Panguna, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which struck the area at 13:35 UTC (00:35 local time), was centered roughly 54 km west of Panguna. It occurred at a depth of 124 km.
