A 5.0 magnitude quake was detected close to Vilyuchinsk Thursday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The tremor, which struck the area at 17:52 UTC (04:52 local time), was centered approximately 165 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk. It occurred at a depth of 23 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.
